Decide where is best for your group to ratify.
To ratify as a society in York, all signatory positions (President, Secretary and Treasurer) must be York-based.
If your signatory positions (President, Secretary and Treasurer) are Hull-based, please follow the guidance on Hull University Students' Union's (HUSU's) page for starting a new society.
You cannot have some signatories from Hull and some signatories from York!
If your group is not sports-based and your signatories are York-based, please follow our guidance to starting a new society.
Please be aware that all York SU societies are open to all students, so your society must also be open to all students.
If your group is sports-based, please follow our HYMS Sub-Societies application process.
If sports-based, your society will have to be a sub-society of York Medical Society. As a society, you are still expected to reratify every year, but you will reratify as a HYMS group.
Together with HUSU and the HYMS School, we have drafted up a document of FAQs for setting up a new HYMS Society.
Please take a read through and get in touch with societies@yorksu.org if you are struggling with anything!
If you would like to set up a new HYMS Society based on your course, you will be an Academic and Educational Society.
Please follow our guide to starting a new society!
If you would like to apply to become a new sub-society, please complete the form adjacent and send this to societies@yorksu.org.
Your application will be reviewed at the next Societies Committee meeting.
We also recommend that you chat with Medical Society (medsoc@yorksu.org) about becoming a sub-society before sending this application off!
