Understanding Skill Gain through Mind-Mapping
Mind Mapping
If you're a fan of a spider diagram or mind map, then this can be a really effective exercise for you to work out what skills and experience you have gained since being in a particular role. This guidance will walk you through the process step by step.
Before you start, get a big sheet of paper, or use an online tool such as Miro.
In the centre of the mind map, add the extra-curricular activity you've been involved in. The example below is for a College Events Officer.
2. Think about the skills you have gained in that role, and add them as separate branches on the mind-map.
 3. Looking at the skills and experiences you've just added, add connecting lines to see how different skills overlap and reinforce each other.
4. Add examples linking to each skill, or how you used that skill within your role. (in bold)
5. Expand on the example, adding what the experience taught you, or how you would approach the situation next time.
