Safeguarding
York SU is a registered charity and as such, must abide by UK Charity Law, and ratified student groups have no separate legal identity from York SU. This means that UK Law regarding charities also applies to affiliated groups.
Due to this, there are a number of rules and regulations that projects must adhere to to ensure your project is complying with legal guidelines, York SU’s by-laws and your Project Constitution.
Safeguarding
Whether your project is volunteering with Children, Young People or Adults at Risk or not, York SU's Safeguarding Policy remains an important document for all students at the University of York and all students engaging in student group activity to ensure a safe and secure environment for all staff, students and visitors who access it's services and facilities.
York SU is taking reasonable steps to:
Provide a friendly, secure and comfortable environment for the benefit and enjoyment of all students and visitors taking into consideration the needs of all concerned;
Keep them safe from harm while in the company of its staff, elected officers or representatives and volunteers;
Support and protect the interests of staff, elected officers or representatives and volunteers who have contact with, or access to, children, young people and adults at risk.
As part of re-ratification, student groups have stated they have read and agreed to this policy, and projects volunteering with Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults must complete the Safeguarding Training.

The Safeguarding Policy includes full details on what to do if you are concerned, including the appendices and reporting forms. You should familiarise yourself with these procedures.
